Meet the Precast Concrete Experts
Kurt Ruhland, P.Eng., Director of Building Structures, MTE Consultant, Inc.
Kurt has over 25 years of building consulting experience in the field of structural engineering. Kurt has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois and a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. He has spoken on the topic of concrete structures at ACI seminars, Construct Canada, the CSCE Conference and other training sessions. Kurt is a licensed practitioner in four Canadian Provinces and ten US States and has been the Engineer of Record and precast engineer on dozens of Total Precast Concrete structures throughout Ontario. He currently sits on the CPCI Technical committee and the CPCI Board of Directors.
Okan Duyar, M.Sc., P.Eng., Precast & MCP Specialist, BASF Construction Chemicals Canada
Okan has over 25 years of experience in the cement, concrete and admixture industry. He has spoken at various organizations such as Transportation Research Board, ICCX (Russian Construction Show), BIBM (European Precast Organization), CCPPA and ACI seminars and trainings on the topics of Self Consolidated Concrete, concrete durability and early age cracking of concrete in architectural and structural Concrete.
Okan has two master of science degrees, one from overseas on Structural Engineering and another one on materials from the Wayne State University of Detroit. Okan has been involved in developing blended cements, over 100 year-service life concrete designs and project applications. He has publications on concrete durability, early age cracking, self-consolidating concrete (SCC) and admixture technologies. Okan is currently sits on the CPCI Technical committee and is the chair of a task group developing a CPCI Best Practice Design Guide for self-consolidating concrete (SCC).
Wayne A. Kassian, M. Sc, P. Eng., President, Kassian Dyck & Associates
Wayne provides over 30 years of diverse structural experience in the design of precast, steel, and concrete structures. He received his B. Sc. at the University of Alberta in 1985 and obtained his M. Sc. with Distinction in 1990. Wayne has been the senior structural design engineer for numerous projects, ranging from small residential buildings to multi-million dollar industrial and commercial projects. Wayne is very experienced with precast concrete design and is also a member of CSA A23.3 - Design of concrete structures, and CSA A23.4 Precast Concrete - Materials and Construction. Wayne also sits on the Quality Assurance Council for the Canadian Precast Concrete Quality Assurance (CPCQA) Certification Program representing the Accredited Certification Organization (ACO). Wayne was awarded CPCI John Fowler Award of Distinction in 2011 and a CPCI Fellowship in 2017.
Malcolm Hachborn, M. SC., P. Eng, President, M. E. Hachborn Engineering
Malcolm has over 30 years of structural design experience of precast concrete structures. He has extensive experience in building science, manufacturing and construction of precast concrete building envelope systems. Malcolm has been involved in projects ranging from the design of simple, single storey precast structures to 50 plus storey residential projects. Malcolm has also designed precast for water treatment facilities, multi storey condominiums, large institutional projects (hospitals and courthouses) and multi-storey commercial and office structures. Malcolm participates on several CSA technical committees for advanced materials and many of the technical and quality committees for the Canadian and US Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institutes. Malcolm is also the author of the recently published CPCI Architectural Precast Concrete Walls Best Practice Guide (2017). Malcolm was awarded a CPCI Fellowship in 2017.
